Install Spotlight

Spotlight is a Forge app distributed through the Atlassian Marketplace. Installation takes under two minutes and requires Jira admin permissions on your site.

Before you install

Jira Cloud (Forge apps do not run on Jira Data Center / Server).
A user account with the Administer Jira global permission.

Step 1 - Open the Marketplace listing

Sign in to your Jira site as an admin.
Open the Marketplace listing for Spotlight - AI Charts & Reports for Jira - you’ll find it on Bytera’s vendor page or by searching the Marketplace for “Spotlight”.
Click Get it now (or Try it free to start a trial).

Step 2 - Choose your site

If you administer more than one Jira site, pick the site Spotlight should be installed on, then click Install.

Step 3 - Review and accept permissions

Atlassian will display the permissions Spotlight requests:

read:jira-work - read issues and run JQL searches; also used for the Jira-admin check
read:jira-user - read user and group information (used for group-based sharing permissions)
read:board-scope:jira-software, read:sprint:jira-software - read boards and sprints (velocity charts)
read:issue-details:jira, read:jql:jira, read:project:jira - read project and issue data, validate JQL
storage:app - save your spotlights and settings in Forge storage, inside your tenant

Spotlight requests no write scopes at all. It cannot create, modify, or delete issues, projects, boards, or any other Jira data - everything it does with Jira is read-only.

Click Get it now to confirm.

Step 4 - Wait for installation

Atlassian provisions the app - usually 10-30 seconds. When complete, you’ll see a Get started button.

Step 5 - Open Spotlight

In Jira’s top navigation, open Apps.
Select Spotlight.

The Spotlights gallery opens. It starts empty - click New spotlight to build your first one.

Verifying the install

You’ll know Spotlight is working when:

Spotlight appears in Jira’s Apps menu, with Spotlights and Settings pages in its left-hand navigation.
Clicking New spotlight opens the builder with the “What do you want to see?” prompt box.
The Spotlight Chart gadget appears in the gadget list when you edit a Jira dashboard.

Updating Spotlight

Spotlight updates automatically through Forge. There is nothing to deploy or restart on your side.

Uninstalling Spotlight

Settings → Apps → Manage apps in Jira.
Find Spotlight in the user-installed list.
Click Uninstall.

Spotlight’s Forge storage data (saved spotlights and settings) is removed from your tenant per Atlassian’s standard data-retention policy. See privacy for details.
