Install SyncUp

SyncUp is a Forge app distributed through the Atlassian Marketplace. Installation takes under two minutes and requires Jira admin permissions on your site.

  • Jira Cloud (Forge apps do not run on Jira Data Center / Server).
  • A user account with the Administer Jira global permission.
  • At least one Scrum project with sprints (SyncUp shows a clear “No Scrum Board” message on Kanban-only projects).
  1. Sign in to your Jira site as an admin.
  2. Open the Marketplace listing for SyncUp: marketplace.atlassian.com → SyncUp.
  3. Click Get it now (or Try it free to start a trial).

If you administer more than one Jira site, pick the site SyncUp should be installed on, then click Install.

Atlassian will display the permissions SyncUp requests:

  • read:jira-work — read issues and sprints
  • write:jira-work — used only to create a single internal “anchor” issue that SyncUp uses to deliver email notifications via Jira’s mailing system (Forge does not provide SMTP)
  • read:board-scope:jira-software, read:sprint:jira-software — read boards and sprints
  • read:issue-details:jira, read:jql:jira, read:project:jira — read project and issue data
  • read:user:jira, read:jira-user — read user profiles (for role-based briefs)

SyncUp does not modify your team’s issues, comments, or workflows. The write scope exists exclusively for the anchor-issue email delivery mechanism.

Click Get it now to confirm.

Atlassian provisions the app — usually 10–30 seconds. When complete, you’ll see a Get started button.

  1. Open any Jira Scrum project with an active sprint.
  2. In the project’s left-hand navigation, click Apps.
  3. Select SyncUp.

The first time you open SyncUp, it indexes the active sprint and generates your brief. Indexing typically completes within a few seconds.

Daily Brief tab — first view after install

You’ll know SyncUp is working when:

  • SyncUp appears under Apps in your project’s left nav.
  • The top header shows the sprint name, day count, and a forecast badge.
  • The Daily Brief tab loads with role-specific content.

SyncUp updates automatically through Forge. There is nothing to deploy or restart on your side.

  1. Settings → Apps → Manage apps in Jira.
  2. Find SyncUp in the user-installed list.
  3. Click Uninstall.

SyncUp’s Forge SQL data is removed from your tenant per Atlassian’s standard data-retention policy. See privacy for details.
